Victoria Axten - Equine Dental Technician
I have been involved with horses since a young
age, always playing an active part within my family. This involved breeding
cobs, showing in hand and carriage driving. During my childhood I
made sure I was on hand whenever the vet visited.
I was so intrigued
by the nature of the work and learnt a great deal.
By the age of 9, I had made my mind up. I wanted a career working with
animals and later decided to pursue a career as an equine dentist.
After leaving school, I studying at North East Surrey College of Technology Training achieving qualifications in both Animal Care Management and a Btec Diploma in Animal Science. During this time I had the pleasure of caring for my own horses. At this time, I started competing in long distance endurance riding.
Having completed the diploma I attended World Wide Equine, The Academy Of Equine Dentistry in Idaho. I trained under the guidance of the world renowned Principle Master Equine Dentist - Dale Jeffery.
My studies covered Equine Dental & Oral Anatomy. The history of equine dentistry,
tooth Structure - Anatomy of the oral cavity - Abnormalities of the oral cavity - Deciduous teeth,
Periodontal ligament and alveolar bone relationship to teeth.
The
biomechanical function of the equine hypsodont dentition, Numbering
systems, Anatomy of the horse’s head and mouth.
The common dental
pathologies and malocclusions, as well as basic equilibration
techniques used to stop or slow progression of dental disease.

I completed further studies at The American
School of Equine Dentistry in Florida. Before returning home to
start my
own business.
Which thankfully & successfully allows me to continue
the pleasure of working with and caring for Equines as a horse
dentist.
I always aim to provided a high quality equine dental care service to every horse treated.
I promote working alongside veterinary professionals not only where sedatives and x-rays are required But also in advanced dental cases ensuring the best progression for that particular patient.
Equipment is disinfected for full protection against bacterial, viral and fungal contamination of any wounds or abrasions within oral cavity and to ensure against the spread of contaminates between horses.
